Acceptable File Formats
(in order of preference):
PDF
PDF’s should use the “PDF/X-1a” setting to ensure the PDF meets our printing
standards. Adobe Acrobat Distiller is a good program for making reliable PDF’s.
IMPORTANT: If you are using transparency in your design, please be sure to
flatten the transparency when making your PDF. Transparency can occasionally
create unpredictable printing results.
Note: all fonts must be embedded. Images must be 300 dpi in CMYK format. Do
not use JPEG image compression —JPEG compression reduces the quality of an
image.
Photoshop Tiff
A minimum resolution of 300 dpi at final size (100%). Images must be in CMYK
format. All fonts must be rasterized (converted to image).
Illustrator EPS
with all images embedded into the file. All fonts should be converted to
outlines/paths to avoid reflow or other problems.
Quark document,
with images & MAC fonts (include both the printer and screen fonts)
We do not accept film.
Font Limitations and Requirements
Our design environment is
MAC based. We can accept PC-based files but not PC fonts (for example, we could
accept a PC-based Adobe Illustrator file with the fonts converted to outlines).
Please limit font usage to Type 1 fonts. Screen and postscript fonts must
accompany the ad. The printer bears no responsibility for type reflow due to use
of altered copyrighted fonts as well as fonts stylized in various applications.
Do not format text in Quark (bolding, italicizing, etc.) Use the proper fonts.
Image Requirements
Image resolution should be
a minimum of 300 dpi at final size (100%). Images must be in CMYK format. RGB
images will not print properly. Images and graphics should not use any form of
compression, including (but not limited to) JPEG compression, LZW compression,
etc.
Additional Production Charges
If Kootenay Rockies
is required to fix an incomplete or incorrect ad, the work will be charged at
$90 per hour (1/2 hour minimum charge). If time allows, advertisers will be
notified when ad materials do not meet our specifications. However, we reserve
the right to make any corrections necessary to proceed with production (convert
files to the above formats, reduce or enlarge to fit the space ordered, pull
proofs, etc.).
Ad Production Assistance
If you do not have access to
design services, the companies listed
below
offer complete assembly or make-up services. Production is extra, over and
above ad space rates.
Approximate ad production costs may be as follows:

Half Page $300 - $425
1/3 Page $225 - $325
1/6 Page $100 - $160
