Island Lake Catskiing
Cat-skiing the Canadian Rockies is an unforgettable and highly addictive experience. Island Lake Cat-skiing rose to fame in the late 1980s through the media and ski & snowboard icons such as Scot Schmidt and Craig Kelly.
The magnificent peaks of the Lizard Range in the Rocky Mountains tower over 7,000 acres of private bowls, valleys and gladed forests.
Vast, spectacular terrain topped with 12 metres (40 feet) of snow that consistently makes for some of the best skiing in the world. Island lake is the ultimate destination for luxury cat-skiing, spacious rooms with soaker tubs, five-star cuisine, full-service spa and guest service second to none.
Tour includes all lodging, meals, safety equipment and skis or snowboards.
The Tamarack Lodge (built in 2005) includes 8 deluxe guest rooms with spacious ensuite bathrooms. This lodge also includes the wellness spa facility and main dining room with great views of the Lizard Range.
The Cedar Lodge also features 8 deluxe guest rooms. Each room hosts a patio and spacious ensuite bathroom. This lodge has a livingroom with fireplace and workout gym.
The Red Eagle Lodge (built in 1996) is a standard but cozy log cabin with two common areas, great for friends sharing a tour. The 10 comfortable guest rooms feature ensuite bathrooms. This lodge also has a large front deck.
The Bear Lodge (built in 1988) is where it all started. This is where you will enjoy apres ski with a game of pool or darts, hearty homemade soups and fresh baked breads, and a selection of beer and cocktails.
While you spend the day taking on the mountains, the chefs are planning and preparing a feast that will be the perfect ending to a perfect powder day. The unique French inspired Rocky Mountain cuisine has also resulted in a cookbook from Whitecap publishing. The dishes are brilliantly matched with an extensive and eclectic wine list. Island Lake Lodge is also open for lunch (including snow-cat rides to the lodge) Thursday – Sunday in the Winter. Check out their website for details.
The Island Lake Spa features six treatment rooms – one with a deep Japanese soaking tub. The spa is open after cat-skiing each day from 4-7:30pm.
Island Lake Lodge also offers ski touring, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
