Assiniboine Lodge

  • Built in 1928, Assiniboine Lodge was North America’s first backcountry ski lodge. Today it retains its rustic charm and welcoming spirit.  Nestled at the base of iconic Mt. Assiniboine, the Lodge is surrounded by stunning peaks, alpine meadows filled with wildflowers, larch trees and turquoise lakes.

Assiniboine Lodge is located in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia 26 kilometres (16 mi) from the nearest road, it is a place of incredible peace … a place where guests disconnect from the busy world and reconnect with nature, family and friends.

Comfortable and cozy accommodations are the perfect base to explore the spectacular surroundings. The full-service lodge welcomes 12 guests in winter and 30 summer guests in 7 private cabins and 5 lodge rooms.

Accessible from Canmore, by helicopter and hiking or skiing trail. The helicopter staging area and most popular trailhead is located in Kananaskis Country, Alberta at the Mount Shark Helipad and the Mount Shark Trailhead. Hiking access is also possible from Sunshine Resort and from Highway 93.

Guests enjoy daily guided ski touring and hiking, great fresh hearty food, warm showers, star-filled nights, saunas and cozy down duvets. The Assiniboine family welcomes people with an adventurous spirit who are ready to be inspired by the mountains and beautiful meadows. Extraordinary experiences are served up daily.

During the summer, Assiniboine Lodge welcomes guests to hike among some of the world’s most breathtaking views. Each day, guests can choose between two guided hiking trips. One is easier and shorter, while one is more challenging and longer.

In the winter, the vast and varied ski terrain lends itself to alpine touring and backcountry Nordic. Certified professional guides lead daily ski tours for intermediate to advanced skiers. All required safety equipment is provided by the lodge. They ensure you feel safe and secure while exploring the breathtaking surroundings.

Assiniboine Lodge manages the Campgrounds and operates basic overnight shelters at the Naiset Huts for hikers and skiers and the Hind Hut for climbers.
