Cranbrook was built for the railway. With the development of the CPR’s Crowsnest Line, the city grew up around the tracks. Elegant homes were built to house the railroad elite, and fine commercial buildings were constructed in the downtown core.
The trains still run through Cranbrook, right beside Trains Deluxe – The Canadian Museum of Rail Travel. A large collection of vintage rail cars and the Royal Alexandra Hall, a magnificent example of Edwardian architecture, have found a home at this exceptional museum. The performing arts also have a fine home in Cranbrook at the Key City Theatre.
