The beautiful Creston Valley stretches from the town of Creston, north along the Kootenay Lake East Shore to the village of Crawford Bay. Tucked into the sunny bench between the Purcell and Selkirk mountain ranges, the Creston Valley is the perfect retreat for outdoor adventurers, foodies, creative souls, lovers of the land and anyone in need of a wholesome home-away-from-home experience.
The Creston Valley's unique climate and incomparable geography make it a place where you can feast like royalty on a 10-mile diet, thanks to its rich, diverse agricultural industry and then whet your whistle with locally-produced wine and beer or try a taste of the 2012 World's Best Pure juice!
Drive throughout this scenic valley and stop in at farms offering gate sales. We're proud of the food we grow and how we grow it. So give it a try, stock up on your journey - we'd love to share it with you. Complement these natural treats with local wines. The Creston Valley boasts three local wineries already and they are growing. Then hop over to the Columbia Brewery for a tour and have your picture taken with the Sasquatch.
A large, talented community of artists and artisans gives colour and texture to the valley's culture. The Lower Kootenay Band of the Ktunaxa nation carries forth its ancient cultural heritage and a language so distinct that it is unconnected to any other in the world. The Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre and Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area, a Ramsar designated wetland of international importance, covers 17,000 acres, boasts 32 kilometres (20 mi) of walking trails and is home to over 300 species of birds, 57 species of mammals and 29 species of fish, reptiles and amphibians. The Nature Centre offers guided canoe tours and interpretive programs.
And, with an annual average rainfall of a mere 49 centimetres and above-freezing mid-winter temperatures, nature itself extends year-round hospitality. There are so many ways to enjoy this place. You'll want to take your time travelling the Creston Valley, and we won't rush you.
