Kootenay Columbia Discovery Centre

The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area is a  lush wetland habitat located 11 km west of Creston.  It stretches for 7,000 hectares (17,000 acres) from the southeast tip of Kootenay Lake to the U.S. border. An estimated 300 species of birds call this area home.

The Discovery Centre is a unique facility that offers a variety of services to make your visit to the Creston Wildlife Management Area enjoyable and memorable.  They offer:

  • On-site Naturalist staff to deliver tours, programs, events
  • Educational displays
  • Information on trails, wildlife sightings, etc.
  • Science and Nature Lab
  • Hands-on Kids Activities
  • School Programs
  • Junior Naturalist Camps
  • Gift Shop & Washrooms
  • May and June, open Monday to Saturday
  • July and August, open 7 days a week
  • September to Thanksgiving, open Tuesday to Saturday

Guided Canoe Tours & Walking Tours
One-hour canoe tours are also offered.

Experience the sights and sounds of the wetland.
Paddle the ponds and channels in search of wildlife.
Offered daily, May to August when open.

The boardwalk is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is wheelchair accessible – you can enjoy birdwatching, wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, canoeing and fishing.
