Grizzly Bear Refuge

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) features the largest enclosed and protected grizzly bear habitat in the world. The 20-acres refuge is home to the residents grizzly bear, Boo. Within this natural mountainside habitat, Boo hunts, plays, forages and explores just like his wild cousins. The refuge is open daily during the summer and there are interpretive tours that include a chairlift ride to the Grizzly Bear Refuge.

The village offers Peaks Grill, Double Black Cafe and Winston Bar & Bistro.

Eagle’s Eye Restaurant is Canada’s most elevated dining experience. The gondola (once operating) takes you to the top of the mountain and discover a culinary experience and the crown jewel of resort dining.

Depending on the size & style of wheelchair, it can be fit into the gondola. Staff are dependable to start & stop gondola for loading of equipment. The resort’s Grizzly Bear Refuge offers a modified Ranger Assist Program for visitors with limited mobility and who would like to see Boo the Grizzly Bear. Participants are driven up the mountain and certain types of wheelchairs can be accommodated. Advance info & booking is required.
