INDIGENOUS EXPERIENCES
ʔakisqakⱡiʔit, is Cranbrook’s Ktunaxa nation’s name, meaning two valleys that come together.
Taking pride in their roots, the terms Ktunaxa and ʔakisqakⱡiʔit are not just names, they are symbols of the enduring bond with nature, exemplifying a fusion of cultural richness and natural abundance, which has flourished over thousands of years. This land embodies not only resources but a deep lineage of cultural wealth that they honour and respect.
The Ktunaxa Nation masterfully reimagined the St. Eugene Mission residential school into the indigenous-owned opulent St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino. They invite you to immerse yourself in an extraordinary experience where history and modernity seamlessly blend. The interpretive centre, a tribute to Ktunaxa’s rich history and their steadfast pursuit of land and social rights, awaits your visit.
